VP, Corporate & Legal Affairs

Jay Vieira, Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs for Distinct Infrastructure Group (DIG) plays an integral part in working with senior leadership to achieve DIG’s overall strategies and goals. Jay supports DIG’s existing and prospective investor relations, ensuring corporate governance is met at all levels, assisting with mergers and acquisitions and ensuring compliance with securities and corporate law.

Jay has acted for domestic and international corpora¬tions and investment dealers, in a broad range of transactions, including public offerings, private placements and acquisitions.

Some of Jay’s clients have been international mining companies, medical device companies, telecom-munication companies, media companies and renewable energy companies. He also advised public issuers on general corporate and securities law mat¬ters, including stock exchange listings on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange and CDNQ, continuous disclosure obligations and other regulatory compli¬ance issues.

Jay is experienced in preparing prospectuses; conducting and coordinating due diligence; prepar¬ing proxy material in all aspects of securities law, including shareholder meeting materials, private placements and capital pool companies.

Michael Mifsud

VP Shared Services

Michael Mifsud is a 35-year veteran of telecommunications operations, with experience in front-line and executive roles in every aspect of the business.

As VP Operations for DISTINCTTech from 2013-2015, Michael managed the engineering and construction divisions, working closely with clients such as Rogers, Cogeco, and Bell. As VP Operations for Expertech, 2008- 2011, Michael led a team of 140 managers, 33 associates, and 649 technicians. As GM of Network Operations Engineering from 2004-2008, he was responsible for the network design, drawing, and build-out of Bell’s fibre and copper networks in Ontario, working with Bell planners, engineers and city officials and managing an engineering team of 150 managers and 400 associates.

Maryann Romano

VP Human Resources

Maryann Romano is a seasoned Human Resources executive with over 25 years of experience. As a member of the Senior Leadership team, Maryann offers experience gained in public and private companies, union and non-union environments and within Canadian-owned and subsidiary scenarios.

Maryann is a business-driven, strategic Human Resources leader with a passion for developing organizations and people.  A visionary culture champion who inspires employees to live the mission, vision and values of the brand and the company.

Her HR expertise is complemented by a broad experience base which include extensive leadership experience in building high performance teams and driving change across complex global matrix organizations with significant presence in the US and Europe during rapid growth, turnaround and transitional business cycles.  She is recognized for her communication skills, leadership and the development of executable human resource strategies focused on delivering results.


David W. Tavenor

Business Development

A pioneer in the telecom industry, having served with Rogers for over 48 years.

As President and CEO of his consulting company, Tavenor & Associates Inc., David offers his services to prospective clients by leveraging his comprehensive background in telecommunications, his extensive government network and his experience in corporate aviation. He has aligned himself with a group of experienced advisors from municipal government utilities and aviation field.

David Tavenor is a pioneer in the telecommunications industry, having served with Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI) for 48 years. While at RCI, he served initially as Engineering Manager, responsible for a staff of 248 persons. During his career, he assumed increased responsibilities within the corporation, culminating in his current appointment as National Director, Municipal & Utility Liaison.

In that capacity, he has been instrumental in securing access agreements with municipalities and successful in negotiating hydro pole access agreements, as well as numerous other agreements and deals with agencies, boards and commissions. In addition, he has led discussions with municipalities and ratepayer groups regarding the siting of cellular towers. In this capacity, he has built an extensive network of contacts across the Province of Ontario, a key factor in building an impressive track record of success.

In addition to his career in telecommunications and consulting, David is an accomplished aviator and is qualified as a commercial pilot. He also completed the construction of a home-built aircraft which he test-flew and he won the Canadian Aerobatic Sportsman Champion in 1981.

In recognition of his distinguished career in aviation, David was awarded the rare and singular honour of being one of the first Canadians to be designated an Honorary Snowbird by the Canadian Forces Snowbird Air Demonstration Team.


Michael Lipari

Director, Business Development

Michael Lipari leads the Business Development team and is based in both Eastern and Western Canada. Michael has extensive senior management experience across Canada in telecommunication sales, large and complex projects, sales management, hydro-excavation, environmental remediation and emergency response.

Michael has been instrumental in developing our iVac Division and leading the expansion of our services to western Canada. He has, working alongside with our dedicated technical experts, led the sales efforts in developing our new Wireless Division securing agreements with major Telco’s and manufacturers.

Michael leads a team of dedicated individuals with many years of practical experience and industry knowledge. He is a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal.

Joe Lanni

Co-Chief Executive Officer and Director

Joe has 20 years of leadership experience in challenging infrastructure projects. His exceptional skills in recruitment, deployment, and build-out have consistently been the foundation for bringing major infrastructure projects in on time and on budget.

Joe is a born entrepreneur who started his first business in his late teens and went on to found and sell a number of others. He was responsible for setting up Westbell’s western Canadian operations in 2006-2007, growing it to over 60 technicians in under eighteen months. Joe was one of the founders of DISTINCTTech, and, with Alex Agius, the guiding force that led to the company going public in 2015 to enable the next step in expansion.


Alex Agius

Co-Chief Executive Officer and Director

Alex Agius is a seasoned infrastructure executive with 25+ years of industry experience. His proven ability to find, engage, and motivate great people has been key to his success – his rich network of telco leaders across North America has helped him to build and grow every telecommunications initiative he undertakes.

Alex joined DISTINCTTech as co-Chief Executive Officer in 2009. Previously, as VP Construction at Sentrex Communications from 1988 to 2006, he oversaw Canadian operations and was involved in identifying and assessing US acquisitions. After leaving Sentrex he was responsible for creating the telecom infrastructure group of Westbell Group of Companies. Alex founded DISTINCTTech with Alex Agius; together they grew the company to the point where, in 2015, DISTINCTTech went public to enable the next step in geographic and financial growth.


Garry Wetsch


Garry Wetsch is a founder and shareholder of a number of businesses in western Canada, and serves on a range of private company and volunteer boards.

Garry advises corporations on commercial transactions, employment law, strategic planning, international transactions, and finance. He has been involved in a wide range of industries and is a known supporter of innovation and science in Alberta. Garry is the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal for his economic development accomplishments, and currently serves as Corporate Counsel with Landrex Inc. and its affiliates.


Doug Horner


Mr. Horner has held numerous positions with the Government of Alberta, including Deputy Premier, President of Treasury Board, Senior Advisor to the Premier on Internal and Federal-Provincial Relations, as well as Ministerial portfolios in Finance, Advanced Education and Technology, Innovation, and Agriculture. He has 20 years experience in international trade and has led many trade and investment missions to emerging markets. His business background includes experience in the banking and agriculture industries.


Mr. Horner is currently the Chairman of The Canada Asia Synergy Group, a private organization focused on connecting business and investment between Canada and Asia. Doug also serves as President of Timber Wolf Investment Ltd., an advisory and consulting firm in Canada, specializing in Government relations, management advisory and international trade. Mr. Horner is accredited by the Institute of Canadian Bankers and holds the designation of ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.


Rob Normandeau


Rob Normandeau is responsible for identifying investment opportunities, executing transactions and working with companies in which SeaFort is invested to maximize shareholder value.

Rob previously served as President & CEO of a TSX-listed investment company. Prior to that, he practiced law in the Toronto office of a major New York-based law firm, where he specialized in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Rob was recognized in 2009 as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and is a member of Young President’s Organization (YPO). He is a director of Canada’s Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) and Rocky Mountain Liquor Inc. (TSXV: RUM). Previously, he served as a director of the IWK Children’s Hospital Foundation and seven separate TSX-listed businesses.

Rob holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Scholar’s Electives) from the University of Western Ontario, a Master’s of Business Administration degree with a specialization in finance from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto. He is admitted to the practice of law in Ontario, Nova Scotia and New York.
